There are over 1.2 Million trucking companies in America of varying sizes with a total employment of 8.7 Million Drivers on the roads today. So how does that equate or effect driver pay?”

Driver pay a hot button topic in Trucking? I’ve been asked to write abut this a couple of times so here goes.
Trucks move America literally in every sense of the statement 69% of ALL freight moved in this country is moved by Big Truck at some point. There are over 1.2 Million trucking companies in America of varying sizes with a total employment of 8.7 MIllion Drivers on the roads today. So how does that equate or effect driver pay?
Well the average driver pay in the Trucking industry is somewhere between $.30-$.40 cpm (cents per mile). Now if you equate that to an average of $.35 cpm just for the sake of argument then on any given day the average trucker makes about $21 an hour. Or anywhere from $875-$1050 a week gross pay (before taxes and deductions). Which equals somewhere between $45,500-$54,600 annually again before taxes and…
